Rivals Helena and Gillette met for the first time this season, and the intensity was just as strong as where it left off.
The first battle of the two teams were held in Gillette, but the visiting Bighorns ended their road trip sweeping the Wild, winning Friday night’s game with a 4-2 win, and a 3-2 victory on Saturday night.
The traveling fans for the Bighorns packed the stands with flags, signs, and their favorite Bighorns apparel. Some may say that the fan club the Bighorns carry with them on the road may attribute to their success.
Friday night’s goals for the Bighorns were credited to Austin Uecker (unassisted), Brandon Mcilhany (Cam Young, Elijah Elmer), Kade Pareja (unassisted), and Jason Hammett (Chase Berg). Malik Johnson, Helena’s veteran goalie, blocked 14 of the 16 shots on his net.
Saturday night’s goals for the Bighorns were awarded to Chase Berg (Owen Gruener, Warren Ryser), Elijah Elmer (Dylan Jimenez, Cam Young), and Cam Young (Elijah Elmer, Brandon Mcilhany). Malik Johnson was in net again for the Bighorns, saving 17 shots of the 19 on his net.
The Bighorns will meet the Sheridan Hawks next for the first time this season, hosting them for back-to-back games on Friday, October 11th and Saturday, October 12th at Steed Arena. Tickets for those games are available and can be purchased online at the ticket link below.
