Helena remains at the top of the Frontier Division standings, after two more wins this past weekend against the Great Falls Americans.
Friday night’s game was a road trip for Helena to the Great Falls Ice Plex. The game stayed close at a 1-1 score until the 3rd period, when Helena was able to get another puck into the net, bringing it to a 2-1 game. Great Falls pulled their goalie in the last minutes of the game, allowing Helena to slip another one in, and end the game with a 3-1 win. Goals for Helena were scored by Gavin Barr (Braden Cunningham, Jason Hammett), Braden Cunningham (Gavin Barr, Cai Robinson), and Finn Theriault (Jason Hammett). Helena goalie Alex Lamont stopped 20 of the 21 shots against him in net.
Saturday had the Bighorns hosting the Americans in Helena at Steed Arena. The home crowd seems to be an advantage point for the Bighorns, and that seemed to be the case on Saturday when Helena won the game 5-0. Goals for Helena were scored by Braden Cunnigham (Owen Ramsay, Gavin Barr), Camden Cunningham (Finn Theriault, Gavin Barr), Ty Moore (Jason Hammett, Hunter Coulombe), Finn Theriault (Tim Mattingly), and Jason Hammett (Ty Moore, Owen Gruener). Jesse Schindel celebrated a shutout, stopping all 20 shots on his net.
Helena will host the Sheridan Hawks this weekend, with back-to-back home games on Friday, February 9th and Saturday, February 10th. We will be celebrating parents’ weekend and holding our annual jersey auction.
