Helena takes the Frontier Division title for a second year in a row after defeating the Gillette Wild Saturday night in Helena.
Darby McCarthy started the first period off with a goal, giving Helena a 1-0 lead, assisted by TJ Norris.
The second period had goals by Tyler Bloom (Camden Cunningham, Harlan Wojtusik), and Andrew Deskin (Cade Holland).
Darby McCarthy earned another goal in the third period, giving Helena 4-0 lead, assisted by Lyndon Orr and TJ Norris. Gillette snuck in a couple of goals midway through the third, but it was an empty net goal scored by Braden Cunningham that ended the game with a 5-2 for Helena.
Keaton French, Helena’s goalie, saved a total of 39 out the 41 shots against him on net, helping the Bighorns achieve their win.
Helena now heads to St. Louis for the Fraser Cup Finals. They will play the Oregon Tradesman on Wednesday, March 22nd at 6:00pm, and the Northeast Generals on Friday, March 24th at 6:00pm. Saturday’s game will be Pool A 1st place and Poll B second place, and Sunday will be the championship game.
