It was an exciting weekend of hockey for the Helena Bighorns and the Bozeman Icedogs, but Helena came out on top with both wins this past weekend.
Friday night’s game was held in Bozeman, and the game ended in a 7-4 win for Helena. Goals for the Bighorns were scored by Jakob Losch (Cai Robinson, Alex Lamont), Braden Cunnigham (Gavin Barr, Camden Cunningham), Ty Moore (Garrett Bogan, Alex Lamont), Finn Theriault (Owen Ramsay, Jason Hammett), Trey Pajera (Jason Hammett, Tim Mattingly), Finn Theriault (Jason Hammett), and another by Ty Moore (Dylan Cunningham). Goalie Alex Lamont saved 15 of the 19 shots against him in net.
Saturday’s game was a sold-out crowd in Helena at Steed Arena, and the Bozeman Icedogs were not going to give the Bighorns a win as easily as the night before. The game started off with Bozeman getting the first point on the board. The Bighorns fought back and by the 3rd period, the game was tied 7-7. Helena got a lucky break with a late 3rd period goal, and an empty netter right before the game ended, giving them a 9-7 victory. Goals for Helena were scored by Gavin Barr (Braden Cunningham, Camden Cunningham), Jack Lambert (Camden Cunningham), Mason Eggen (unassisted), Jason Hammett (Jack Lambert, Kelton Chadwick), Cai Robinson (Owen Ramsay, Ty Moore), Jason Hammett (Finn Theriault, Tim Mattingly), Gavin Barr (Joe Feamster, Camden Cunnigham), Dylan Cunnigham (Jason Hammett, Tim Mattingly), and another by Dylan Cunningham (Kelton Chadwick, Jack Lambert). Malik Johnson stopped 27 of the 34 shots on him in net.
The Bighorns will spend this week preparing for two games against the Butte Irish, Friday night in Butte, and Saturday in Helena. Saturday’s game is the Bighorn’s annual Teddy Bear Toss night, raising money for Toys For Tots. After the Bighorn’s first goal, teddy bears will be thrown onto the ice, and all teddy bear and other toy donations will go directly to Toys For Tots.
